Reflecting on events 32 years past

Being born isn’t easy.
You twist and squeeze
and some inconsiderate bastard just
drained the pool.

And then–

It’s all so bright
and cold out of nowhere
They’re cutting your lifeline,
sucking snot from your nose.

Unsure eyes see blurs of color
that never reached you before.
Sounds no longer muffled
by fat and fluid.

Just a brief taste of what lies ahead:
the struggle, the confusion, the pain
that is somehow mitigated by
the joy of self-discovery.
