Four Years Ago Today (Day 15)

(NaPoWriMo continues!)

April in Hanoi simmers at
just below one hundred degrees.
Your caregivers have dressed you
in a purple onesie but you’re still
covered in sweat which is okay
because I am, too.

I’ve just met you and
you don’t seem all that interested
in me or in your mother
although you did like the rattle
we brought thousands of miles
for you to bang on this table.

I have no idea what I’m doing
and neither do you.
We are united in confusion and
will remain that way until
going through the motions
becomes love itself.
