The Morning After (Day 16)

(Another NaPoWriMo entry.)

The Morning After

We pause for a moment
to reflect on the fragile thread
tethering us to existence
and then go back to the
day-in-day-out bullshit
of the life we led the moment before
because while we can acknowledge
that something major has occurred
no one can peer over the edge
into that inky black water for long
without losing faith/hope/trust
in the sustainable decency of humanity
and that is an even worse tragedy.
